A wet acrylic or enamel surface has almost no grip, which is why a large share of household falls happen in the bathroom. Adhesive tread strips give the floor something to hold onto, for very little money and no building work.

The surface must be scrupulously clean and completely dry — clean with alcohol, not bathroom spray, and leave 24 hours before running water on them. Space them so a foot always lands on at least one strip.

Being honest

Strips reduce slipperiness; they do not make a bath safe. If someone in the house is genuinely at risk of falling, a proper grab rail fitted to a solid wall is what actually prevents injuries — use both.
